General Information
The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Fast Track Practical Nursing program provides students with the theory and skills required to practice as a practical nurse in acute care, extended care, and intermediate care settings. The program of study combines nursing theory lectures with planned patient care learning experiences in hospitals, nursing homes and health care agencies. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Licensing requirements are the exclusive responsibility of the Arizona State Board of Nursing. The Fast Track Practical Nursing Program is approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing. This program is designed to meet education requirements for licensure or certification in the State of Arizona. Granting licensure and certification is the sole responsibility of the state board or approval agency. This program is only offered and available to students located in the State of Arizona. The Maricopa County Community College District and colleges define student location within Administrative Regulation 2.2.3(7).
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements to apply to the fast track practical nursing program are:
- Current and active CNA/LNA credential or completion of NUR158 or NCE150 in the last 24 months
- HESI A2 exam scores (minimum scores of 75% in English composite and 75% in math)
- Valid level one fingerprint clearance card

Step 1: If you are not already a GCC student, visit Become a Student to enroll.
Step 2: Meet with the practical nursing program intake coordinator. Please choose one of the options below:
- Appointments (phone, video or in-person). Self-schedule an appointment using our Appointment Scheduler.
- Request information through email by filling out the LPN Information Request Form.
Step 3: Once all admission requirements have been met, you may apply for the practical nursing program on the Maricopa Nursing website. (Click on apply now under Application Process.)

Health & Safety Requirements
Every student entering the MaricopaNursing program must meet all Health & Safety requirements to enter the program and to maintain enrollment. Students will meet these requirements by providing a completed and signed Health & Safety Documentation Checklist with all required accompanying documentation to the Nursing Department as directed. Background Check
All students entering MaricopaNursing programs are required to meet background check standards required by our clinical partners. In order for MaricopaNursing students to complete clinical experiences at local hospitals, students must meet these standards. For more information see the Maricopa Background Check Requirements.
DPS Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
Students in any healthcare program are required to have a current Level 1 DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card in order to apply to, and maintain enrollment in, any program. See these instructions for how to apply for your FCC.
HESI A2
The nursing program entrance exam, HESI A2, is a four-hour, computerized test covering math, reading comprehension, vocabulary, general knowledge and grammar. The HESI A2 test can be taken at Testing Services. The cost is $45 and scores are valid for two years. For more information visit HESI Testing.
The waitlist for the practical nursing program may vary depending on a number of factors and is constantly fluctuating. Please see the practical nursing program coordinator for the most current information.
Lectures and labs are on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the day from 8am to 6pm. Clinicals may be on Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays or during the weekend according to the clinical availability (typically 12 hours shifts once per week).
Schedule Notes: Clinical experiences are scheduled on varied days. All students will rotate clinical assignments and simulations and days and times will vary.
