Civilian Firearms Training

Learn Gun Safety and How to Shoot a Gun

Glendale Community College offers firearms training classes, from beginner to advanced, taught by Arizona police officers and certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors who stress all aspects of safe handling, storing and responsible firearm usage.

These firearms classes are specifically designed for the general public. Range portions of the classes are held at either the Ben Avery Shooting Range Facility, or the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Range.

How to Enroll in a Civilian Firearms Class

Firearms Safety classes are open to students ages 18 and up. You must be age 21 or over to obtain a Concealed Weapons Permit. Before purchasing a firearm, many people enroll in a beginner firearms class, such as Firearms I (AJS151). You will learn proper grip, sight alignment, and trigger squeeze. Your instructor and range safety officer will guide you through the qualification portion of the class. You will learn about different types of firearms, to help you determine what type of gun is best for you before you shop for a gun.

Enroll online, over the phone, or in person. Follow these steps to become a student.
