Bio

Biography

I was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, much to my surprise. This was quickly remedied when my parents, both native to Arizona, returned to Phoenix when I was 18 months old. I graduated from Barry Goldwater H.S. and became a student at Glendale Community College before I even walked for my diploma. My first class was English 101 in HT2, in a classroom I have since taught in. It was at GCC that I met the man I was going to marry and soon started a family.

Eventually, I transferred to Northern Arizona University (Go Jacks!). There I earned a Dual BA in English and Religious Studies and an MA in TESL. Within a week of completing classes, I was on a plane with my family, flying to central China to teach English Composition for Fort Hays State University. This was followed by Tokyo, Japan to teach for the University of Montana and the United Arab Emirates teaching for the Higher Colleges of Technology. Throughout the years, I have taught English Composition, Creative Writing, Technical Writing, Drama as Literature, Film as Literature, and English Literature.

In the Autumn of 2016, I brought my family back to Arizona and started teaching at Glendale Community College the following year. It is my goal as an English instructor to remain focused on learning-centered support of students with a commitment to ensuring supported opportunities for student success. You will most often find me teaching English Composition, as it gives me the greatest chance to help students reach their potential.

I am also the OER Faculty Coordinator for GCC.  This provides me the opportunity to promote GCC's efforts in expanding the Near-Z Programs and finding new ways to foster collaboration, increase student engagement, and empower students and faculty through the adoption, modification, and even creation of open educational resources.  This is an exciting avenue that facilitates the integration of GCC's value of inclusiveness interwoven with quality and learning.

I have a dog, three cats, three children, and a husband. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy gardening, playing board games, reading, writing, taking classes, and spending time with my family.
