Biography
A native of Kanagawa, Japan, pianist Yukiko Fujimura is an active performer and dedicated educator. She appears regularly as a soloist and collaborative artist, with career highlights including a concerto performance with the Belarusian State Academic Symphony Orchestra at the Great Philharmonic Hall in Minsk.
Fujimura is a prizewinner of numerous competitions, including the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Performance State Competition, the Schubert Club Competition, and the Moniuszko International Slavic Piano Competition in Vilnius, Lithuania. She holds a Doctor of Arts in Piano Performance from Ball State University, where she studied with Ray Kilburn. Her teachers also include Alexandre Dossin and Noel Flores. During her doctoral studies, she recorded the complete piano works of Samuel Barber, including his early works, in a recording released in 2011. The recording was the first complete edition to include Barber’s early piano works.
A student-centered educator, Fujimura is passionate about helping students develop confidence, creativity, and expressive musicianship. She has presented workshops on piano pedagogy throughout the United States and internationally at conferences including the Music Teachers National Association National Conference, the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, and the International Society for Music Education.
Fujimura previously served as Assistant Professor of Music at Union Commonwealth University and President of the Kentucky Music Teachers Association. She is also the founder and artistic director of the Southeastern Kentucky Piano Festival.
