Bio

Biography

Monica Sauer, flutist, enjoys a very versatile career in performing and educating in the Phoenix area.  Currently, she is the principal flute with the Mill Ave Chamber Players and is featured on three albums and the digital storybook, Aesop's Fables. Monica has frequently played with the West Valley Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, Arizona Opera, Phoenix Opera, Opera Southwest, and Symphony of the Southwest. As a lover of new music, she enjoys working as a guest artist playing experimental music with Crossing 32ndStreet New Music Ensemble and Integers are for Counting. Monica has been a guest recitalist all over the Southwest and Midwest.

Monica has been a faculty member at Arizona School for the Arts since 2006. She has developed a progressive approach to prepare young woodwind players to enter the performing and academic world beyond high school. Monica started an after school chamber music program and is the curriculum designer for a series of summer chamber music workshops for middle school and high school students. In addition to training performers, she has devised the curriculum for the Music History and Culture courses at ASA focusing on music’s relationship with stories, dance, and form.

Monica received a Bachelor's and Master of Music degrees from Arizona State University. Her principal instructors include Dr. Elizabeth Buck and Dr. Trygve Peterson.
