Bio
Biography
Michelle Blomberg is Residential Faculty in Digital Media Arts, where she teaches graphic design, UX, and career readiness. As a UX designer, she starts with what students need to be able to do when they graduate, including the AI skills their industries are already expecting.
She has spent decades closing the gap between learning and real-world practice. She worked with colleagues at GCC to evolve a Capstone course into the Design Studio, a grant-funded experiential learning program where students work with real campus clients and get paid for their work. She also advises students completing internships and has overseen the design of The Traveler, GCC's award-winning literary and visual arts publication, since 2010.
Community colleges have remarkable resources. What often breaks down is the connection between those resources and the students who need them most. When students feel connected and supported, they persist, and that is the problem she is most focused on right now. She currently serves as co-chair of the Student Support and Success domain on the Maricopa Community Colleges District AI Resource Team, exploring how AI tools might help close that gap.
Outside the classroom, she helps her husband with his photography business and they love to travel with their two border collies mountain biking, snowboarding, and vanlifing around the Southwest. Her mantra: "Done is better than perfect."
