Bio

Biography

Since 2000, John Gibson has taught business and information technology courses for GCC, where he enjoys an interactive and project-based approach to teaching and learning. He is a Maricopa Institute for Learning Fellow, a member of the Maricopa District OER Steering Team, and co-leads GCC’s OER Committee. In addition, John has presented at conferences on topics such as group decision support systems, digital visual literacy, experiential learning, open-entry/open exit mastery learning, and personalized learning with Open Educational Resources (OER).

Prior to working at Glendale Community College, John consulted on early virtual university initiatives at Arizona State University, managed several IT organizations, worked in database administration at the USDA on a large national project, and participated in Colorado’s Leading Edge business development program. He grew up in Ohio where he graduated with a BS in Education, moved on to earn an MS in Business & Computer Information Systems from Colorado State University, and then taught for the University of Northern Colorado. During his free time, John enjoys travel, outdoor adventures, hiking, photography, book clubs, science fiction, movies, music festivals, and hanging out with his family.
