Bio
Biography
Ms. Helen Devereux has been an educator in Arizona since 1995. She began her career in a 7th grade classroom teaching Reading and English. After a few years at the middle school level, she began to teach all different levels of English-Reading courses at the high school. Not only did she teach in the Peoria Unified School District, she was a Department Chair, Varsity Assistant Softball Coach, Assessment Coordinator, and student club mentor prior to transferring to the Maricopa Community College District.
Her educational pursuits started at Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication Education and English. She continued as a Lumberjack to earn a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership along with a Principal Graduate Certificate. In addition to her coursework through Northern Arizona University, she continued graduate level coursework through Grand Canyon University to meet the Higher Learning Commission standards for Reading, English and Education.
As a public-school educator, she has taught in multiple modalities from in-person instruction, live-online, asynchronous, and hybrid. Her courses vary from English, Reading and education classes. Currently, she is a residential faculty member at Glendale Community College.
Ms. Devereux is passionate about her student's success. Her teaching philosophy is based on Maya Angelou's statement "that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
