Biography

Brian Smith is an accounting professor at Glendale Community College, where he teaches courses in financial accounting, intermediate accounting, and fraud examination. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Northern Arizona University and later completed his MBA at Western International University, Masters of Science in accounting from Keller, and also earned his CPA (“Certified Public Accountant”) and CFE (“Certified Fraud Examiner”).

Before entering education, Brian worked at various entities, where he gained experience in accounting, financial statement evaluations, fraud investigations, auditing and other accounting and fraud work.

As an instructor, Brian strives to make accounting practical, understandable, and relevant to the real world. He enjoys helping students move beyond memorizing procedures so they can understand why accounting information matters and how it is used to make business decisions. His courses emphasize critical thinking, professional communication, ethical decision-making, and the practical application of accounting principles. He is also interested in using technology and creative assignments to make challenging material more accessible and engaging for students.

Outside of the classroom, Brian enjoys spending time with his family, listening to music, exploring new teaching methods, playing strategy and simulation games, and working on creative projects. He is also active in his church and values faith, family, service, and lifelong learning.
