Melissa Galvan, GCC Student & KCACTF winner

Melissa Galvan, Glendale Community College (GCC) Theater major, won the Alternate Award for Student Directing at the Region VIII Festival sponsored by the Kennedy American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival is a national theater program involving 18,000 students annually from colleges and universities.

The award was presented on Saturday, February 13, during a live stream presentation of the KCACTF Awards Ceremony. Region VIII comprises two-year, four-year, and graduate-level programs from colleges and universities throughout Arizona, California, Southern Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, and Guam.

Melissa is in her third year at GCC and plans to graduate in spring 2021. After graduation, she plans to transfer to a university to continue pursuing her passion for theater. Her career goal is to become a professional stage director. She received award nominations for directing GCC's productions of "Lockdown" and assistant directing "Rossum's Universal Robots." Her nominations allowed her to present her theoretical directorial pitches. Melissa was named a finalist and was awarded alternate (2nd Place) in the directing category.
