Personal Enrichment Community Education Instructor FAQs

After you submit a Class Proposal Form, Community Education staff will review your proposal and follow up regarding next steps. You can expect to hear from our team within approximately two weeks. If you have questions during this time, please email us at [email protected].

Community Education classes are designed to help participants learn new skills, explore interests, or engage in hands-on learning for personal enrichment or enjoyment. All proposals are reviewed and approved before being offered, and instructors may be asked to provide additional information to support successful enrollment.

Proposals are more likely to be approved when instructors consider the local market, course timing and pricing, and evidence of community interest.

Instructors are expected to be present, prepared, and engaged throughout the scheduled class sessions. Reliable attendance and communication are essential to participant experience and the success of Community Education offerings.

Community Education classes are typically short-term. One-time workshops and single-session classes are encouraged, as they help keep participant costs affordable. Multi-session classes are considered based on overall value and registration cost.

Classes are most commonly held in late afternoons, evenings, and on weekends. Other times may be considered depending on the class and audience.

Instructor compensation is typically based on instructional (face-to-face) hours and approved preparation time. Instructor pay and material costs are included in the per-student registration fee.

Paid classes must meet a minimum enrollment threshold and may be cancelled if that minimum is not reached.

If your class requires materials, you should consider per-participant needs when designing your course. Instructors may use their own materials or include a list of required materials and estimated costs in the class proposal.

When materials are included as part of the course fee, Community Education staff will assist with purchasing supplies using Community Ed course funds. Material costs are factored into the total class price, and keeping participant costs reasonable is an important factor in meeting enrollment minimums.

Community Education staff can support course promotion by creating a course flyer, posting class information on the Community Education website, and including classes in Community Education email campaigns.

Instructors are encouraged to promote their classes through personal networks, email, and social media, as instructor outreach often plays an important role in successful enrollment.

Absolutely. Instructors are welcome to submit multiple proposals. Each proposal is reviewed individually based on timing, demand, and overall fit.
