GCC’s four Choral ensembles are open to academic majors and community members. If you have a musical background (singing or instrumental experience) we we may have a place for you in one of our four choirs. Have fun, meet people from virtually every major academic discipline, continue your vocal development and build lasting friendships. Auditions are held each semester (but do not guarantee entry) for any of the choirs:
- Concert Choir: A large, mixed choir designed to emphasize choral techniques and performance of all styles of choral literature. Public performances are scheduled during the year, which may include a concert tour. Meets Monday and Wednesday from 10-10:50 a.m., Tuesday and Thursday 10-11:15 a.m. The audition may include a sight-reading example.
- Chamber Singers: An elite, mixed vocal ensemble comprised of the best singers attending GCC. This ensemble receives frequent requests to perform and tour throughout Arizona. Meets Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 12-12:50 p.m.
- Mixed Community Choir: This ensemble is open to all students and members of the community. This choir performs a vast array of music, from Renaissance through contemporary composers, each semester. Meets Monday evenings, 7:10 p.m. - 9:50 p.m.
- Vocal Jazz: Public performances are scheduled during the year and may include extra performances in area schools and tours. Meets Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15-3:30 p.m. The audition will consist of a vocal solo in the jazz style.
We encourage students who are planning to transfer course credits to a university music program to contact the Director of GCC Choral Arts before enrolling in any classes.
