Course Descriptions
TTD101 Tractor-Trailer Driving I
General Program overview. Orientation to trucking profession including history, governing agencies, and regulations. Professionalism and the role of the commercial driver. Introduction to tractor-trailers, including identification and operation of various parts and controls. Introduction to hours-of-service regulations. Discussion of truck stops/fueling stations. Analysis of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Introduction to procedures for coupling, uncoupling and fifth wheel and trailer tandem slides. Preparation for the Arizona State License and Department of Transportation's certification examination.
TTD102 Tractor-Trailer Driving II
Continued study of activities performed by professional drivers, with an emphasis on the safety of the driver, vehicle, cargo, and other road users. Training and certification in first aid and CPR skills. In-depth preperation for hazardous materials, doubles/triples and tanker endorsements. Introduction to the pre-trip inspection. Discussion of tire chain use and demonstrated installation. Development of knowledge and skills in the areas of cargo documentation and trip planning. Discussion of issues pertaining to life on the road, communications and personal resources. Includes information gathering and guidance for the job search.
TTD103 Tractor-Trailer Driving III
Study and application of practical skill and knowledge necessary for safe, efficient operation. Vehicle handling skills and fuel-efficient operating practices, including backing procedures, coupling and uncoupling, visual search, communications, speed and space management. Techniques for operation in mountain driving conditions. Includes hazard recognition, emergency maneuvers and control and recovery. Includes function and operation of all key vehicle systems, diagnosing and reporting of malfunctions to service personnel.
TTD104 Tractor-Trailer Driving Practicum
On-the-job practicum providing experience and training to develop advanced competencies in handling a tractor-trailer.
Tractor-Trailer Driving Refresher
Refresher classes are geared towards individuals who have been CDL drivers in the past and need remedial training to regain their license. It is also for current CDL drivers who haven't driven in awhile or for those that want to brush up on their skills before a drive with the company safety officer. Refresher courses consist of one-on-one training. Student must posses either a valid Commercial Driver's License or a CDL permit prior to training.
