Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta is one of only eight American soldiers to be honored so. The other seven were awarded posthumously.

The DREAM Act was first introduced on March 26, 2009, by Dick Durbin and Richard Lugar in the Senate and was shot down by the Senate on September 21, 2010.
