MAPPS freezes tuition at universities

By Bekah Sipes

Everybody is becoming more aware of what the economic recession has done to our economy. It seems like everything has gone up and what seems to be going up more and more is tuition rates at major universities.

As of Aug. 22, fall tuition rates were $428 per credit hour for residents of Arizona and $774 per credit hour for non-residents. The tuition rates keep climbing too, forcing students to search for more and more scholarship money and student loans.

Perhaps a solution to this tuition problem would be good. If one goes to a community college that is in the Maricopa County Community College District(MCCCD) such as Glendale Community College(GCC) then they are eligible for the Maricopa ASU Pathways Program(MAPP) program that is for students who know what their major is already.

The MAPP program is an incentive for those in one of the MCCCD who have already declared their major and are planning to attend Arizona State University(ASU).

Those that sign up will freeze their tuition rates for as long as they go to university as long as they do not change their major.

For those that sign up for this great program, ASU and MCCCD works with the student in taking the classes necessary for their intended major.

Also included in the program is its own Associates degree as long as the student's grade point average(GPA) is up to the standard. If the MAPP program seems like a good choice for you then go see your advisor as soon as possible and sign up for your very own MAPP.
