"Make a budget and stick to it"

Those were the words of Arizona State Treasurer Dean Martin when asked what Junior College students should do to prepare themselves for having to pay for University tuition.
"Prepare yourself, keep yourself from getting too far in debt, whatever the cost you think tuition is, it is going to be more expensive, and make sure that when you are eligible for loans, you don't take out more than you need because that can affect your credit score in the future."
As far as spending goes, Treasurer Martin says, "Don't spend more than you make, the state has been spending billions of dollars more then what they have, now they are in the red by over 100 million dollars."
Treasurer Martin also used examples like going to Starbucks everyday and getting coffee, he said, "even if you bring a brown bag to school instead of buying it, it's the little things you can do to save money, but make sure you are not spending more than what your budget calls for."
Martin also brought up a game that students can play online that will help them with using their budget wisely, it is called financial football.
Martin created it with the help of Arizona Cardinals star wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald, while the Super Bowl was here in Arizona in 2007.
