GCC introduces "Pay for Print"
By Mary AllanReporter, The VOICE
Unless you have been living under a rock, every Glendale Community College (GCC) student should be aware that GCC will be charging students for printing projects starting Oct. 1.
GCC will be starting a program called Pay for Print in High Tech 1, (HT1) High Tech 2 (HT2) and the Library Media Center (LMC) open labs.
The fee will be ten cents per printed side for black/ white pages and one dollar per printed side for color pages. Pages printed backto- back are considered two printed pages.
The GCC Pay for Print website explains the reason for charging is to "help students make betterinformed decisions about what they print, also to reduce excess printing on campus, thus saving on costs for paper, ink and toner."
GCC spent more than $25,000 in paper and toner alone for printing improved services. Over the total fall 2008 semester, 1,380,573 pages were printed at a cost of $30 per box. At the charge of ten cents per page, the program should more than pay for itself.
To print, the first thing you need to do is obtain your GCC student ID card. If you do not have one, go to the Enrollment Center.
Go to one of the deposit machines to activate your account, you will be using your eGCC username and password. Deposit machines are located in HT1 and the LMC at GCC Main. At GCC North, a deposit machine is located in the Computer Commons area.
You then deposit money (up to ten dollars) into the machine. The money will be credited to your Pay for Print account. Change machines are located in the Library Media Center.
When you are ready to print, send your document to the print queue. Go to a Print Release station and use your eGCC credentials to login. After logging in, select the print jobs you want to release. Your document can stay in the queue for up to six hours. If a problem occurs that prevents your document from printing, see a staff member at the Service Desk for assistance and they will print your job for you.
