Breast Cancer Awareness: Show support, race for the cure

Get your running shoes out for Susan G. Komen's 26th annual Race for the Cure. The race will take place Sunday, Oct. 11, with more than 50,000 survivors, supporters, and donors are expected to participate.
Registration takes place in the Wesley Bolin Plaza of the State Capitol District at 6 a.m. Oct. 11. The race will begin on 17th Avenue and Adams Street and will travel around the State Capitol and end east of 17th Avenue and Jefferson Street.
Tickets vary in price based on walking, running, and length of the run, and include a shirt and participant number.
I AM THE CURE Pink Parade begins at 6:30 a.m. before any of the races take place. The Pink Parade is dedicated to all families to commemorate breast cancer survivors walking in celebration of their cure.
The one mile walk and run is $30 and begins at 7:15 a.m. An hour later, the 5K run for breast cancer survivors will begin. The 5K run is $40 and takes place at 8:20 a.m. and the 5K walk, $40 also, takes place at 8:40 a.m. The Susan G. Komen foundation was founded by Nancy G. Brinker, in honor of her sister, Susan G. Komen. Before, Susan G. Komen's death, Nancy G. Brinker assured her there would be a cure for breast cancer. Since 1982, Brinker raised $1.5 billion dollars for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer research.
