Summer is on its way and you know what that means: vacations, beaches and more free time than usual. The movies have always been a great retreat during the summer and this season's line of movies promises not to disappoint.

The month of May starts things off with a bang having many of the summers' top action films. X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits the big screen on May 1, it tells the early story of Wolverine before he joined the X-Men. The following week, May 8, the Star Trek franchise reboots itself with its 11th installment.

On May 21, the 4th film of the Terminator franchise is released with Terminator Salvation that seeks to continue the long storyline of man vs. machines. In the last week of May, Pixar's Up comes out. Pixar movies have done consistently well in the box office and Up looks to keep that tradition going on May 29. June continues with the comedy Land of the Lost, starring Will Ferrell and Anna Friel, opening on June 5.

Arriving in theatres June 19 is the comedy Year One starring Jack Black and Michael Cera and is produced by Judd Apatow, who brought you Superbad and Pineapple Express. The sequel to the 2007 blockbuster Transformers will be released June 24 with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The storied franchise looks to score big in the box office as the first grossed $708.2 million worldwide.

July follows up with the 6th installment of the Harry Potter films: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. August finishes up with the live action adaptation of the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toy franchise. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hits theaters Aug. 7. Certainly this summer movie season looks to be a good one.
