Like any normal young adult, Arizona native Samantha Payne, 18, hangs out with friends and sleeps in on the weekends. What sets Payne apart is that she hasn't graduated high school yet and she is already a published author. Payne's novel, Strangers of Eden is comprised of two books put together as one story. The book is about a town called Black Haven, an alternate realm on Earth, where the inhabitants don't know anything about optimistic feelings and happiness. One day a psychiatrist comes to the town of Black Haven and tries to extend his services to the denizens of this gloomy town.
However, the towns' people know nothing of joy and happiness so they fail to see why they would need help. The psychiatrist makes his way around town and listens to different people's stories, and helping them to find joy, while at the same time saving himself from a corrupt past of his own.
The first book was written and finished her freshmen year of high school. The main character is inspired by her first love; other characters are reflections of her friends and characters she met. Her favorite works include Lois Lowry's The Giver and Stan Lee Comic Books.
Strangers of Eden is a unique and creative story which should excite anyone interested in alternative views to the human psyche and will give Payne a solid spot in the writing community.
Payne plans to attend New York University for creative writing. The book is available online at barnesandnoble.com and will be sold later in stores.
