Fite on

Sophomore forward looks to take next step after starring at Glendale

Sophomore Lance Fite has enough options off the court to rival his weapons on it.

Last year's only freshman starter and this year's leading scorer is now preparing to make the jump to the next level. Fite hopes his versatility as an agile 6'7" forward will translate to success against stiffer competition.

"My freshman year I think I took a handful of threes all year. Now I've taken that to the next level."

Fite was one of five players on the team to take over 100 threes on the year, and converted on a respectable 35% of them. The next step in his game will be on the defensive end.

"This is the first year I've done anything guard-like. Now I have to expand my [defensive] game out to the perimeter," Fite said.

"I'm going to have to defend guys that are my height but who are quicker and can jump higher. That's going to be the biggest thing for me is getting quicker defensively."

Where Fite ultimately goes is still a matter of research. Norther Arizona University, Mesa State, University of Colorado Springs and University of Idaho are among the schools that have shown interest in his skills this year.

"Right now it's about going about my business, weighing my options and see which program I fit in best."

The fit is key for Fite, who wants to test his potential, but not be the twelfth man for a prestigious program.

"I'm a basketball player. I'm not a basketball sitter."

Versatility abounds in Fite's career goals as well. A communications major, Fite likes the options the generic area of study gives him. A double major in art history, a personal interest, is also on his agenda.

Like his offensive options, it's a safe bet that whatever Fite elects to do, he'll get get the results he's looking for.
