GCC North campus continues to expand

Enrollment increasing as more classes and programs are offered to students

By April Moody
Reporter, The VOICE

Where once the Glendale Community College North (GCCN) Campus, located on Happy Valley Road between 57th and 61st Avenues, was only considered a "satellite" of GCC main, now is officially considered its own campus due to some new and exciting changes in the past year or so.

GCCN has experienced a great influx of students in the past eight years. This growing campus has expanded from only 800 students enrolled in the Fall of 2000, to 2250 students as of August 2008.

It is obvious that the increase in students has come due to the great amount of added services that GCCN now offers. These services include an additional 57,000 square feet of added student facilities, such as it's own library, fitness center, cafeteria, bookstore, student union, computer commons, student study spaces, tutoring, additional classrooms and large lecture rooms, and science laboratories.

Along with added facilities, GCCN now offers a variety of programs and classes that before could only be taken at GCC main. The Dene of GCCN, Deedee Denslow added that, "students can achieve a full schedule here without making a drive to the main campus".

That's great news to students that commute a distance south to meet their educational needs. Their expanded curriculum offers basic classes such as biology, chemistry, physical sciences, and everything included in the General Education Curriculum.

The news that GCCN has expanded has attracted students to finish their basics there, instead of GCC main. Denslow relates, "It's nice that they [students] have study space".

The new campus is excited about their recent number in student increase, and encourages those students that can or need its services, to come and experience the difference for themselves.
