That Thursday Thing returns for fourth year

By Rogelio Macias
Reporter, The VOICE

The aspiration for the sense of community and pride in your neighborhood thickens the atmosphere every third Thursday of a month, in downtown Glendale, for the fourth year running of "That Thursday Thing."

Running from February to May, the historical shops and locations of attractive downtown Glendale open their doors for extended hours for the visitors' enjoyment.

An entirely free event, activities ranged from face painting, caricature prints, trolley rides throughout downtown Glendale with stops at Cerreta Candy Company, Carriage Rides throughout Catlin Court, gifts along with giveaways, and live entertainment.

Each month's event has a new and exciting theme. Each event will also have a charity component to benefit a local charitable organization. On Feb. 19 the first "That Thursday Thing" kicked its events off.

In honor of friendship month the event was centralized around friendship and had a chic scavenger hunt essence activity where the visitor travelled to different locations downtown and collected a special bead, ending at The Bead Museum where you constructed from your collected beads a friendship bracelet.

The event began four years ago while Grand Avenue was under construction and access to downtown was limited. It served as a way to promote the downtown area during the construction process.

From a plethora of activities to attend and see the target demographic are woman shoppers, but "That Thursday Thing" draws all ages, males and females, families and groups eager to attend and experience a very assorted experience.

Many individuals have been attending since the first year.

The future goals and aspirations for this event are to continue to bring a "unique and unforgettable event to the residents and visitors by providing a fun and leisurely night in downtown Glendale" hope expressed by Lorraine Pino, tourism manager for Glendale Office of Tourism and Visitor Center.

On Mar. 19, enjoy a culinary event and an opportunity to sample That Thursday Thing theme "The Dish," the ninth edition of Historic Downtown's cookbook. Event hours are 5 to 8 p.m.

The charity component for March will be canned food drive.

The Glendale Visitor Center will be accepting canned goods and non-perishable food items to benefit the St. Mary's Food Bank.
