Plastic surgeon performs miracle surgeries in China

By Eric Carroll
Advertising Manager, The VOICE

The Valley of the sun is home to Dr. Paul Angelchick a doctor who is a Plastic Surgeon and humanitarian. Dr. Angelchick has a practice here in Glendale, Arizona since 1994. Recently The Voice had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Dr. Angelchick and learn more about plastic surgery and about this humanitarian.

Dr. Angelchick didn't start off with the plan to become a doctor initially he had a double major at Stanford and wanted to become an English Professor. He told The Voice, "as I got farther along into it I decided that I wanted to have more direct interaction with people and make a difference in peoples' lives".

Dr. Angelchick works with an organization known as Rotaplast International that was founded by The Rotary Club of San Francisco. He is on a goodwill mission trip to Chengde, China from now through Nov. 9. The mission is to aid patients who suffer from cleft lip and palate.

There will be about 35 to 45 people on the team.

There will be people who will perform the surgeries, transport the patients and spend time with them after their surgery. When the team arrives they will evaluate the patients to come up with a schedule for their surgery.

The Team arrived in Beijing, China on Oct. 27. Later that day after going through customs, that went through all the medical boxes, the team rode a bus to Chengde to eat and sleep. The next day they walked to the hospital to meet the hospital staff, media, and awaiting patients. There is a mission blog that you can see daily updates of what goes on at www.rotaplast.org. Dr. Angelchick suggest that anyone who wants to know more about cleft lip and palate as well as the Rotaplast organization go to Rotaplast.org and you will find some information.

Dr. Angelchick has an event that is coming up when he returns from his mission he will be speaking about plastic surgery.
