Oh, how the mighty hath fallen

By Mary Allan
Reporter, The VOICE

The third debate between Presidential nominee's John McCain and Barack Obama has come and gone. Most observers have said that it was pretty much the same as usual and that it was a draw.

The story of Joe the plumber made for some comic relief but I do not think this night was a draw. It just made things much clearer.

I do not believe that Senator McCain has the temperament to be president. I used to have a soft spot in my heart for John McCain, even though he was a republican. I thought of him as wise, humble, honorable. Sadly, I do not feel that any longer.

I do not think he is wise. His shooting from the hip decision to pick Governor Sarah Palin as his vice- presidential running mate is a prime example. She lacks intellectual curiosity about the world around her. This is a quality necessary to run the country and world effectivlely. Look at what we have been through in the last eight years.

I do not think he is humble. Anyone who has the arrogance to lie unabashedly to our faces does not have the integrity needed to run the country and the world.

"We find McCain's accusation that Obama "lied" (about the relationship between Obama and former Weatherman Bill Ayers) to be groundless." According to Annenberg FactCheck.org

I do not think he is honorable any longer. Any presidential ticket sets the tone for their own campaign and its surrogates. So if his base is calling Obama a terrorist or an Arab or talking about him being different (black) you don't need to look very far to see where it originated. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

This has been one of the nastiest campaigns I have seen. At the third debate it was apparent to me who was fit to be president.

Obama was calm, cool and collected. McCain though spry at 72 did not seem in command of himself. He acted overwrought, as if he might go off any minute. Also his vision of where this country should go sounds more like Bush. We need some fresh ideas.

For my next president I want someone who is wise, humble and honorable. That is why I am not voting for McCain.
