Disney recruits students for internships

Glendale Community College (GCC) was the host of a Disney Internship seminar in which students learned about the many opportunities available to them through the Disney college program.
The program offers a paid internship working at either Disneyland or Disney World, a custom designed learning curriculum to earn college credits, great networking opportunities, inexpensive housing and a great name on your resume.
After completing the application process students who are accepted will participate in one of the chosen programs from January to August or from January to May at their choice of theme parks.
To be eligible a student must be enrolled in a college or university. The program is open to all majors and academic levels.
Student Brad Marques waited in line to speak to a representative. He hopes for the chance to work at Disney World while getting his foot in the door at Radio Disney to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.
Fellow student and Disney World hopeful Ashley Wilson is looking for a career in film production and found the opportunities with Disney to be promising.
Disney recruiter Elaine Bolivar explains "There are always opportunities at Disney…we are open to anything and are a great networking source."
When asked what sort of students this program is geared towards Bolivar says "Communicators, future leaders with great personality."
GCC alumnus and Jungle Cruise skipper John Lasseter got his start with Disney and is now an Academy award winning animator and the chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Disney started the program 27 years ago and has recruiters in over 100 countries. Disney also owns ABC, ESPN and Lifetime, but the opportunities don't stop there.
Campus recruiter Kristen Wait explains to dance majors that her first job with Disney was a dancer in a parade. The program also recently added housing and online classes for students.
For those interested in the program GCC will host another seminar on November 10th at three p.m. in SU 104A or students can go online at Disneycollegeprogram.com.
Students must print an application form and are encouraged to bring an updated resume and to dress professionally.
Why is Disney the Place for GCC students? Bolivar says "(it's) and awesome experience, students leave their comfort zone and gain key learning experiences in a diverse atmosphere." All we need to hear is the program slogan Dream it. Do it. Disney.
