Taste of Chaos takes over Glendale

Denelle Veselik
Reporter, The Voice

The Taste of Chaos Tour came crashing in to Jobing.com Arena in Glendale April 9 with Bullet For My Valentine, The Underneath, Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Idiot Pilot, DespairsRay, Mucc and Bless The Fall.

The doors opened at 4 p.m., the show was full of force and the last band shredded until little after 1 a.m. The Underneath played with a sort of magnetism you could only identify with if you were there. They played with an electro beat and are a big inspiration in Japan.

Atreyu played like they were about to explode, with a variety of rap metal turn to a roar of sound. Atreyu performed their best-of-collection, being re-released with a DVD and a bonus track.

Idiot Pilot also shredded the quarters with a tough surge of electronics and a screeching, furious sound. DespairsRay is one of the first Japanese bands that performed across intercontinental boundaries. They had an industrial metal sound that pumped up the multitude. Mucc was a great performance with a solid beat.

Bless The Fall, is a Christian band with some hip-hop influences and in spite of that, a metal sound. Idiot Pilot featured electronics and a high-quality, mature, up-to-the-minute rock. Lead singer Michael Harris gave a variety of hard-core blast with his vocals.

Avenged Sevenfold was fascinating with hard-hitting metal and a punk-pop nature of handle. They finished the hours of darkness with scorching combustion special effects and for the most part managed to keep the crowd sitting or on their knees.

Last but not least, Bullet For My Valentine kept the crowd thundering. By a long way they were the unsurpassed, with an 80's rock band touch and their intense, lay down accents. Moose continuously brutally shredded on the drums while Matt rose to a fury on the vocals.

They were even quoted to be the best British metal band to emerge in years, according to Q magazine. They started off with their hit "Scream Aim Fire" off of their new CD which has already gone platinum.

Even though that Bullet For my Valentine was not the most important magnetism headliner like Avenged Sevenfold. It was so conspicuous that they had the audience in their hands by far. The bellow from the multitude was so extreme; it is hard to disagree with that they were the band that the crowd was there for.

Unfortunately, the band will not continue with the tour this year due to Jay's (bassist) daughter, who is very ill in the hospital. Like any loving father he had to rush home to be by his daughter's side after the show.

The Bullet has cancelled all remaining shows on the North American tour. Matt Tuck told blabbermouth.net in an exclusive interview, "She's very, very ill — she's in the hospital. I'm not gonna go into too much detail 'cause that's obviously his personal stuff — but she's very ill and he had to fly home straight away, which obviously is the correct thing to do, and he wants to be there by her bedside and hopefully she's gonna pull through. He didn't have any choice — he had to go home — and that was totally fine with us." Bullet's Padge, Matt and Moose played two abbreviated shows with Kevin Papworth, their guitar tech, covering for Jay on bass, but the band just couldn't be comfortable with out him.

Although they will not be appearing for the five dates in Seattle and Canada they sure did start the Taste of Chaos tour enthused and full of energy.
