Cheba Hut satisfies mid-day munchies

The nation's only marijuana-themed restaurant, Cheba Hut, expanded into Glendale Feb. 16 and sits facing Glendale Community College (GCC).
Appropriately, they moved into what used to be Trails Department Store on 59th and Olive and Trails took their bongs, Jimi Hendrix t-shirts and business across the plaza. No longer can the constant smell of Nag Champa be found here but instead the air gives off the lovely aromas of Chronic, Kush, White Widow and even Jamaican Red. Not the illegal stuff that comes in a baggie; they're names of a few sandwiches that Cheba Hut offers. They named all the menu items after popular names for marijuana.
Jenna Duffy / The VOICE Matt Willers, a Cheba Hut customer, enjoys a "blunt size" Panama Red, one of the restaurant's signature toasted sandwiches, in front of the colorful mural that adorns the sub shop.
With their motto "The only fried thing here is an occasional customer," they offer everything from toasted subs to salads to soups to a large choice of dessert items including homemade Rice Krispie treats, Oreo cheesecake and a Stickie Ickie (Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich) which will be sure to zap any lingering munchies.
Don't be afraid if you aren't hip on marijuana jargon; they have descriptions on the menu so you don't end up with Shwag when you really wanted Acapulco Gold. For those who are a little counter-counterculture Cheba Hut offers up such good grub and a relaxing toned-down atmosphere anyone can find solace here. They play classic "stoner" rock featuring artists like Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, and Bob Marley. Prices won't kill your buzz either. They don't have the cheapest food, but they are reasonable; the salads will run about five bucks and the subs depending if you get a nug, pinner, or blunt (sizes) are an average of six or seven bucks but they pile them high and toast them to perfection so customers get their money's worth.
