ACCUPLACER and CELSA Placement

Why Do I Need to Take ACCUPLACER or CELSA?
The math and reading levels of all new students are assessed in order to ensure each person is enrolled in the right level class. You don't want to waste time and money taking classes for which you already know the materials. To find the right course level, GCC requires each new student complete the ACCUPLACER or CELSA test. After taking the ACCUPLACER or CELSA, students take their scores to their Academic Advisor, who is an expert in enrolling students in the right level course. Academic advisors customize class schedules for each student, with the goal of contributing to student success.

Will you need special accommodations to take the ACCUPLACER or CELSA? Submit a request for disability accommodations in advance.

New students who speak English as a second language are required to take the CELSA assessment test.

This test measures your understanding of the English language. Your score helps us identify which classes are most appropriate for you.

CELSA is a free, 75-question, multiple-choice, computerized test. The CELSA test is written in English and is a 45-minute timed test.
