Types of Tests

ASSET (Assessment of Skills for Successful Entry and Transfer)
ASSET is a pencil and paper test. It consists of three 25-minute multiple-choice placement tests and is designed to identify your skill levels in English language usage, reading and mathematics. Assessment may take up to 2 hours. Calculators may be used on the Elementary, Intermediate or College Algebra sections of the test.

ACCUPLACER
is a computerized testing system that helps place students into appropriate courses. The tests assess student's English, Reading and Math skills. The test are untimed, multiple choice, and computer-adaptive tests.

RE-TEST POLICY FOR ASSET AND ACCUPLACER
Students will be permitted one re-test in English, reading or by math level after at least a 24-hour waiting period. An additional re-test is permitted one year from the date of the student's original or re-test at any course placement testing site. Course placement scores, with the exception of the reading exemption, will be valid for two years from the date of the original or re-test assessment.

CELSA (Combined English Language Skills Assessment)
CELSA is a 45-minute, 75 question multiple-choice test designed to measure context and grammatical understanding of the English language for students who are not native speakers of English.

NELSON-DENNY
Nelson-Denny is used by the Fire Science Department. Students who want to enroll in EMT104 and take this test must score at the 9th grade reading level. This is a pencil/paper timed test lasting 35 minutes.

CAPS (Career Ability Placement Survey)
CAPS is used for the automotive admissions test and covers a variety of skill areas. This is a pencil/paper timed test lasting 40 minutes.

HCC (Health Care Core) Credit by Examination
HCC is used by health care programs to award credit by examination. HCC tests may be either pencil/paper or computer based. The test is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
