ASG Funding Policies and Material Usage Guidelines for GCC Student Clubs/Organizations

Purpose

The purpose of this association is to promote and maintain, with the cooperation of the administration and the faculty, a democratic college community life that meets the intellectual, moral, physical, and social needs and interests of the student body and community and to foster the rights and privileges of all students.

Mission Statement


The Associated Student Government is to represent the voice of Glendale Community College students and create a place to participate responsibly in a culturally diverse, technological and global society.

Vision Statement

The Glendale Community College Associated Student Government will provide a community college life that meets the social, intellectual and diverse needs of the student body.

Strategic Goals

In order to fulfill the ASG vision and mission statement as an organization our Strategic Goals are to:

•    Effectively plan, organize and execute ASG events
•    Investigate and address major student issues and concerns
•    Recruit and Maintain a full ASG board
•    Responsibly represent students on key Glendale Community College Faculty committees
•    Collaborate effectively with Glendale Community College Students, Faculty, Staff and Administration
•    Enhance the Associated Student Government’s leadership, communication and decision making processes

Qualifications


The Student must:

-    Carry six (6) or more credit hours at a GCC campus
-    Maintain a 2.00 cumulative GPA (4.0=A), unless his/her first semester
-    Be available on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
-    The term of office shall begin immediately following elections in the fall semester and end the following spring with the final meeting.

Students are encouraged to participate in student government. Involvement in your student government may provide many opportunities and benefits. The Associated Student Government of Glendale Community College is always looking for students willing to contribute to its success and experience the satisfaction of involvement.



General Election Information


The ASG has 15 elected student representatives. All students currently enrolled and carrying 3 or more semester credit hours at GCC are eligible to vote in the election of ASG Student Representatives. The term of office shall begin immediately following elections in the fall semester and end the following spring with the final meeting.



Election Rules


There will be no "Write In" candidates or "Tickets". All students interested in running for election must individually apply and meet qualifications in order to be eligible for candidacy. All campaign posters must be approved and posted according to campus guidelines. Any irregularities or complaints about the Election procedure shall be reported in writing before the polls close to the Dean of Student Life for review by the Election Committee. If the concern is not satisfactorily resolved, it shall be submitted to the Dean of Student Life, for review. No campaigning is allowed inside the Student Union during elections.



Executive Officer Elections


The ASG Executive Officers are the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations. The Executive Officers shall be elected by the ASG Board. Candidates are selected from the Student Board Members. Elections shall take place on the last meeting of the Spring semester. A simple majority vote by secret ballot will determine the successful candidate. In the event of no clear winner, a runoff of the two candidates with the greatest number of votes will occur until a simple majority is attained. The term of office shall begin immediately following Executive Officer Elections in the Spring semester and end with the swearing in of the new ASG Officers at the end of the following Spring.  ASG Executive Officers may not hold concurrent Executive Officer positions with any other student Club at GCC. All Executive Officers shall be entitled to the remuneration as determined by the ASG and Maricopa County Community College District Administrative Regulations.
