Online Guide to Student Clubs and Organizations
Glendale Community College Student Life & Leadership
Congratulations! You're an Advisor...

Becoming an advisor to a GCC club or student organization will allow you to share your professional expertise in the
continuing development and education of our students. As an advisor, you are accompanying students in a journey where
they are able to discover a whole new world beyond the classroom!

As you begin the semester, spend a little time deciding about what you want to acomplish as an advisor. Reflect back to
extra-curricular activities from your college days and the experiences that helped develop your identity and values. What do
you think that current students are looking for besides a degree or certificate program? Part of any student's college experience
should include making new friends, improving social skills, developing leadership, getting involved in their community and
learning how to manage time. All of which are core goals of student organizations and help better prepare our students for society.

Be a mentor and role model. As an advisor make their time and your time memorable. Reap the reward, enjoy the days when
students return to tell you what a difference you made in their lives - that they received so much more out of college because of
their involvement in one of our student organizations. But beware, you might just end up enriching your own life and finding inspiration
along the way. The most unexpected students can change you and the campus and hopefully when they leave here - the world!

Bon Voyage! Have a great year.
