Bio

Biography

I am not a native-Phoenician, but I have lived in Phoenix the vast majority of my life. I grew up on the west side, and continue to live there today. I graduated from Agua Fria UHS in 1988, and later attended and graduated from GCC in 1997, ASU in 1999 with my BA in English, and ASU in 2005, with my Master's in Interdisciplinary Studies--Literature Specialization. I taught at GCC and three other institutions as an adjunct for two years, before accepting a full-time position at Grand Canyon University, and then, one year later, at Glendale Community College, where I have been residential faculty ever since.

During my career I have taught a variety of classes, from Eng 061 up to 300 and 400 level literature courses. At GCC, currently, I teach English 101/102 Honors, 102, English 200, ENH 221, ENH 222, ENH 254, 255, and 256. Though I have a passion for all literature, I am particularly fascinated with British Literature, particularly the Romantic and Victorian eras in Europe. In American literature, as my students and colleagues will attest, I am fascinated with Edgar Allan Poe. Indeed, my office is practically a shrine to the great poet and author.

In addition to teaching, I am currently the Director of the Writing Center, and I am both a former Faculty Senator and well as an Assistant Chair in the English Department. Regardless the roles I serve in, the one that matters most is teaching my students. My students always come first, and they always will. Treating students like people, not numbers, and helping them reach their potential, is life's greatest joy and blessing for me, and I hope that this passion for my students is evident in all I do.
