As we all know, Proposition 401, the MCCCD Capital Bond Initiative, passed this week with an overwhelming 76% of voters. Words cannot express how pleased I am for this result. I am also extremely grateful to the many, many people from all employee groups on our campus and others from the community who worked hard on various aspects of this bond election. Many folks also volunteered much of their personal, off-work or vacation time; this is especially appreciated.
I want to give special thanks to the Citizens Committee, headed by Sheryl Benavides, the President's Circle, Shirlene Fant Rand for the wonderful fund-raiser evening held in her home, and to George Martinez who led the community awareness effort.
I know most of you are thinking: WHAT'S NEXT? Please look for a special edition of my newsletter next week that will outline the upcoming steps and actions that will move this initiative from voter approval to the building and remodeling outlined in our Master Plan.
The passage of this bond is a significant event for GCC and a great way to commemorate our 40th year of service in the West Valley!
