This week's newsletter welcomes some new members of the GCC Community, and offers kudos for hard work by some current ones. I wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day.

Moving Day
How do you relocate five office areas full of people, all their files and boxes, 155 phones, 140 computers and 10 printers, and do it so that no services are interrupted? Excellent planning and execution, dedication and hard work, and a lot of GCC pride and spirit.
The move into the new Enrollment Center this past weekend was one of the largest ever at GCC, and everyone involved rolled up their sleeves and did an amazing job of getting it all done between the end of the day on Thursday and the start of business on Monday morning. Everyone from Admissions and Records, Advisement, Financial Aid, Fiscal Services, Multicultural Services, and M&O, Crafts, and Network Services deserves a "hats off" for their tremendous team work and dedication. Well done!
Spotlight on Students
The Financial Aid Department is proud to announce a $3000 "Spotlight on Students" Scholarship winner here at GCC. Financial Aid Directors throughout the United States were given the opportunity to nominate three students. These students were contacted directly by Chela Financial to complete their application process. 50 recipients were selected from 375 worthy nominees to receive a $3000 scholarship. Only two of these were Arizona students, one of whom is a very happy Glendale Community College student.
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Glendale Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International Among the many organizations that receive such dedicated support from so many members of the GCC community, two are particularly well-represented. Congratulations for a job well done to Alberto Sanchez, who has just completed a term as president of the Glendale Rotary. Joyce Elsner and Mary Lou Massal are also both members of the Glendale Rotary, and Jean Ann Abel belongs to the Glendale Kachina Rotary. Randy Kimmens is with the Glendale Chamber of Commerce Foundation and is an ex officio member of the Glendale Chamber Board, to which I also recently had the privilege of being elected.
Are you involved with a community organization? Drop me a note and let me know what it is; I'd like to hear about it.
Glendale Hometown Fourth of July
Some of the best fireworks in the Valley will be right here on campus. The celebration takes place as scheduled here at GCC, with the college pool open from 1-9 p.m. for free swimming. We'll have a local country band, a Luke Air Force Base jet fly-over and a family stage with tug-of-war games, magic and juggling from 7-9 p.m. The 20-minute fireworks show starts at 8:40 p.m.
Vacation
I will be out of the office on vacation from July 4 through July 14th. Jean Ann Abel will be acting president while I'm gone; she can be reached at 5-3155.
