"The use of movement as a healing tool is rooted in the idea that the body and the mind are inseparable. Its basic premise is that body movement reflects inner emotional states and that changes in movement behavior can lead to changes in the psyche, thus promoting health and growth." By Fran LevyCurrently C-c teaches a variety of dance technique and theory classes along with facilitating the Physical Graffiti dance company at Glendale Community College. With a Master of Fine Arts degree in dance from Arizona State University, she has developed a strong interest in working with others to collectively create meaningful art. She has volunteered at local Boys and Girls Clubs, Terros Rehab for Women, The New Foundation for troubled female teens and underprivileged children at the UMOM homeless shelter.
She has additionally attended the "Dance Under Construction" conference in Riverside California. Here she presented work about interpreting the body language of feral children. She also presented her research about the importance of core development for dance technicians at the 2006 National Dance Education Organization Conference.
C-c received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Slippery Rock University located in Western Pennsylvania. While attending SRU, she majored in both Dance and Communications. SRU was her beginning steps to becoming a dynamic artist and made her realize how many countless things she would like to accomplish with art in her lifetime.
She spent the summer of 2003 in Washington D.C. studying with the National Dance Education Organization. She helped write standards for dance education in grades K-12. Learning about how important dance can be for communities and education, she developed an interest with community work and underprivileged children.
Besides her interest in community work, C-c tries to perform whenever she can. She currently dances with FLUX Dance Company. Additionally, she has choreographed and performed in many ASU and SRU dance concerts, Greensburg and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, North Hampton Massachusetts, Riverside California and numerous D.A.R.T performances throughout the Phoenix metro area.
C-c also had the opportunity to teach dance and drama at a small charter school in West Phoenix. The over abundant knowledge that she acquired at ASU helped her with developing unique ways for her students to create art on their own.
She has continued to have an on going learning experience with the Cultural Arts Coalition. During her time with C.A.C., she has met other artists that have committed much of their time to working with communities to create a stronger connection within the groupings of people they have worked with.
Through out her time teaching dance she has taught many classes for those that have had strict dance training and those who haven't. Either way movement is real and communicates more than words could ever provide.
