Cynthia Baker

Cynthia Baker earned her Bachelor's degree in music education and Master's degree in violin performance from Indiana University, where she studied violin with James Buswell, harp with Peter Eagle, and Baroque violin with Stanley Ritchie.

She has been a member of the Phoenix and Grand Rapids Symphonies and of the Sinfonia da Camera (Illinois). Ms. Baker serves as first violinist with Quartet Sabaku, a position she previously held with the Encore and Philharmonic String Quartets as well as holding a faculty trio member position at Calvin College (Michigan) and Eastern Illinois University.

She has been a soloist with the Phoenix College and Eastern Illinois University Community Orchestras, the New Arts Chamber Orchestra (California), the Indiana Baroque Orchestra, the Phoenix Symphony String Orchestra, and Phoenix Chamber Players. Ms. Baker is currently a member of the Tucson Symphony and also performs and records with the early music ensemble Musica Dolce.

In addition to teaching at GCC, Ms. Baker teaches at Arcadia Music Academy and at her home. She is also the president of the Arizona Suzuki association, working to promote the idea that "All children have talent." She lives in Phoenix with her cat, William.
