Percussion
The percussion program at GCC ranks among the largest of any community college in the country. An impressive inventory of percussion instruments allows for private, class or ensemble study and performance to suit any student's interest and to expand student experience. Private instruction is offered at all levels each semester. Instructors with a wide range of profession percussion experience are available to give individualized study to help musicians attain their goals and develop new skills.The award-winning GCC Percussion Ensemble (MUP190) offers students practical performance experience in various percussion groups. The ensemble, under artistic direction of Dr. Douglas Nottingham, performs several concerts each semester representing music from diverse world musical traditions. Percussion techniques are studied and refined as they relate to the literature performed. A wide variety of guest artists perform with the group each year. No audition is required- a desire to perform percussion music and some percussive experience are the only prerequisites.
