Music Transfer Program
This program provides the first two years of music required for a Bachelor degree in Music Education, Theory, Composition, Jazz, Music Therapy, and Performance. Every music major is required to participate in a music performance group each semester. The performance offerings include choir, chamber singers, band, jazz band, opera workshop, guitar and percussion ensembles.
Due to limited course offerings, students should consult with a department advisor in planning their academic schedule in order to complete degree requirements in an expedient manner.
Most courses in the music department are open to all students. There are some courses which have prerequisites, and those may be found in the course descriptions. Students who have not had sufficient training in the fundamentals of music are advised to take MTC101 and MTC103 before taking MTC105Music Theory I and MTC106Aural Perception I.
The Music Department offers class instruction in piano, voice, and guitar. In addition, the department provides private instruction in the areas of piano, voice and various instruments.
Students who major in music at GCC should follow the curricula as outlined. Various universities and colleges, however, demand specific subjects for degree requirements. Students planning to transfer or continue their work at other institutions should consult their catalog and select courses accordingly.
