Graduates Share Transfer Scholarship
Two GCC students, Wendy Respardo and Alexandra Camacho, recently received the Diane H. Thomas Memorial (Transfer) Scholarship for GCC Alumni.
The scholarship is awarded to outstanding GCC graduates who are transferring to four-year colleges or universities. The scholarship typically awards $10,000 annually. In this case, both students were so exceptional, the committee allocated an award of $5,000 to each.
Respardo will be going on to the ASU-Lake Havasu City campus and will pursue a degree in public health and eventually continue to pharmacy school. She has served as president of GCC's Associated Student Government (ASG) and has maintained a 3.803 GPA.
Camacho will be studying at the ASU-Main campus, where she will pursue a program of study in Psychology. She looks forward eventually to earning a doctoral degree and working as a neuropsychologist. Camacho has maintained a 3.909 GPA at GCC and has participated actively in the honors program and Psi Beta Club.
The scholarship was established through a generous bequest by the late Diane H. Thomas, who was an adjunct professor at GCC in the 1980s. Thomas was also a commercial photographer, a television personality, an arbiter for the Better Business Bureau, an author, a freelance writer and a photojournalist. In addition to her endowed scholarship at GCC, her legacy includes an endowed scholarship at Phoenix College, where she also taught.
Congratulations to both scholarship recipients, and good luck with your future endeavors!
