Faculty Librarian Honored with Learning Resources Leadership Award
David M. Rodriguez, faculty librarian at the Maricopa Community College District and Glendale Community College, has been chosen to receive the 2014 Community and Junior College Libraries Section (CJCLS) EBSCO Community College Learning Resources Leadership Award.
The award is sponsored by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) / (CJCLS), the higher-education association for librarians. Representing more than 11,500 academic and research librarians and interested individuals, ACRL is a division of the American Library Association.
Rodriguez will receive a $500 cash award and plaque, donated by EBSCO Information Services. The award will be presented on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
Rodriguez received his B.A. in Political Science from Southern Methodist University and his M.A. in Library and Information Management from the University of Denver. In 1987, he started at GCC, where he has served several terms as department chair of the Library Media Center.
In addition to fluency in English and Spanish, Rodriguez is knowledgeable in Mandarin, and once taught English as a Second Language to adult Chinese in Taipei, Taiwan. He is active in several professional organizations, including the American Library Association, Arizona State Library Association, Maricopa County Library Council and Arizona Association of Chicanos in Higher Education.
Among his accomplishments at GCC, Rodriguez managed the Library Media Center remodel (1999-2000) and oversaw the construction of the new branch library at the North campus (2005–2008). In addition, he was awarded three Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grants which have resulted in the GCC online archives which are housed at the Arizona State Library and Arizona Memory Project.
