GCC Receives Endowed Scholarship from Copperstate Mustang Club
The Copperstate Mustang Club has established an endowed scholarship for Glendale Community College students in the Ford ASSET program, and awarded the first scholarship Rene Llamas. The ASSET program, sponsored by Ford Motor Company, produces factory-trained Ford technicians who apprentice with local dealerships as part of their studies at GCC. A classic Mustang donation to the club by late member Max Sallisbury supplied the seed money for the Copperstate Mustang Club GCC Ford ASSET Scholarship. It will generate two $250 scholarships every year. The first was presented to Llamas on Nov. 11 at GCC's homecoming, which included a football game and an all-Ford car show, sponsored by the Copperstate Mustang Club. Car show proceeds also went to the scholarship fund. The club, founded in 1979, serves as a forum for early and late model Mustang enthusiasts who own and show the popular cars. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. For information about the ASSET program, visit

GCC Fire Students Give Back to the Community
More than a thousand hungry people enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 18 at Phoenix's Rio Vista Center, thanks to Glendale Community College Fire Science students and the Buckeye Fire Department. The GCC students collected turkeys, canned goods, and homemade dishes. They also worked throughout the whole event—setup and food preparation through cleanup. The students felt at home working with the Buckeye firefighters, as most of the firefighters received their training at GCC. The GCC fire students have a history of giving back to the community; their other charitable projects include annual fundraising to sustain a yearly scholarship for fire academy students, and sponsorship of an annual golf tournament to raise money for medical charities such as the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation and The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. For information about GCC Fire Science Programs including the Fire Academy, visit
