GCC Hosts Veterans Day Commemoration, Nov. 9
A ceremony to honor and remember all U.S. veterans will be held Thurs., Nov. 9, at 8:30 a.m. at Glendale Community College. Hosted by GCC's Associated Student Government, the brief ceremony will take place at the flagpole directly east of the GCC Enrollment Center. All branches of the military will be honored and Luke Air Force Base will supply a Color Guard for the event. The public is invited to attend and light refreshments will be served. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale and offers free parking.
Disney World Interviews College Students & High School Seniors at GCC, Nov. 13
Prized internships available through the Walt Disney World College and CareerStart Program will be described to interested full or part-time college students and high school seniors at the Glendale Community College campus Mon., Nov. 13, at 6:00 p.m. Disney recruiter Michelle Dailey will conduct a presentation in the Counseling and Career Services Building lobby, 6000 W. Olive Ave., in Glendale. Plenty of free parking is available. Students interested in this nationally-recognized program should complete an application found at www.disneycollegeprogram.com and bring it to the presentation. Many former Disney interns have gone on to permanent jobs with Disney.
"Empty Bowls" and Other Hunger Week Events at GCC, Nov. 13-17
Scores of bowls and other original ceramic creations will be on sale in the Glendale Community College Student Union to raise money for the hungry on Wed., Nov. 15, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The GCC Ceramics Club and the Office of Student Activities will hold their signature "Empty Bowls" event for National Hunger Week. Each bowl or other item purchased will come with a bowl of soup donated by Aramark, GCC's food service provider. Sale of the bowls raised more than $3,000 for the Phoenix Rescue Mission last year; the same charity will receive this year's donation. GCC Ceramics Club students make and donate the ceramic items, Marjon Ceramics donates the clay, and Ceramics Professor Harry Kaino oversees this annual event. The public is invited to attend. The Associated Student Government is also sponsoring a non-perishable food drive from Mon., Nov. 13 through Tues., Dec. 5. Collection containers will be at several campus locations, including the Student Union. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale and offers free parking.
