Renowned John Jorgenson Quintet Offers Free Jazz Concert at GCC, Oct. 30
A free concert featuring "gypsy jazz" at its most dazzling will be presented by the John Jorgenson Quintet in the Performing Art Center at Glendale Community College Mon., Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. World-renowned guitarist John Jorgenson has been instrumental in the renaissance of gypsy jazz made famous in the 1930s and 40s by Django Reinhardt. Jorgenson has played with many musical greats: Sting, Billy Joel, Luciano Pavarotti, Earl Scruggs, Bonnie Rait, Bennie Goodman, and six years with Elton John's band. In the 1980s, he founded both the Desert Rose Band and the Hellecasters—the latter won "Album of the Year" and "Country Album of the Year" awards in 1993. Bringing the John Jorgenson Quintet to GCC is a major musical event of this year," says GCC guitar instructor Charles Hulihan. "This is one of the biggest guest performers we've ever brought to the West Valley community. Anyone who knows guitar knows John Jorgenson." For more information, contact Hulihan at
