A Glendale Community College biology course has been selected as a top national example of "best practices" by a major educational policy organization. The instructor, Dr. Robert Reavis of Glendale, has developed many secrets of success in the classroom. "Best practices" are programs, initiatives or activities considered exceptional models for others to follow. In a classroom, they specifically mean processes, methodologies and activities shown in practice to be the most effective in achieving course goals. Reavis's course was one of 149 college biology classes from across the nation reviewed by the Center for Educational Policy Research (CEPR) on behalf of the College Board. It identified college courses to be used in the redesign of Advanced Placement (AP) high school biology courses. (photo attached)

An internationally renowned Earth Sciences web site now features several links to the geology images web site of a Glendale Community College professor. Physical Sciences Faculty Stanley Celestian of Waddell, recently learned that the Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE), sponsored by the National Science Foundation, has added two more links from its web site to Celestian's GCC Earth Science Image Archive web site, joining several other links to his site DLESE has made in the past. Educators from around the world use this site. Celestian has had many foreign and domestic emails requesting permission to use his images for teaching, presentations, publications and textbooks. His site features state-of-the-art photographs of geologic specimens such as rocks, minerals, fossils, sands, and earth-crust weathering of many types. To view Celestian's site, visit http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/earthsci/imagearchive/index.htm. (photo attached)
