Fall Job Fair Features More than 75 Employers at GCC, Oct. 11
More than 75 employers offering full, part-time, and seasonal work, as well as internship opportunities, will exhibit and participate in the Fall 2006 Job Fair at Glendale Community College Wed., Oct. 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Major employers attending include Discover Card, Arizona Department of Corrections, Waste Management, Cox Communications, UPS, and the Army National Guard. The public is invited to attend this free event with free parking. Come dressed for success with your résumé ready. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale.
Walt Disney World to Interview MCCCD Students at GCC, Oct. 11
Full or part-time students attending any MCCCD college can learn about the prized internships available through the Walt Disney World College and CareerStart Program at Glendale Community College campus on Wed., Oct. 11. Disney recruiter Sarah Hinchberger will be available at the GCC Job Fair being held that same day from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. She will also conduct two presentations in MA-142 (Math Building, room 142) that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Students interested in this nationally-known program should complete an application found at disneycollegeprogram.com and bring it to the presentation. Many former Disney interns have gone on to permanent jobs with Disney; MCCCD students are encouraged to attend and apply.
GCC Offers Free Depression Screenings, Oct. 5
Anyone may be suffering from depression can obtain free depression screening and evaluation at Glendale Community College on Oct. 5. GCC counselors will screen from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the GCC Career and Counseling Services (CCS) building, 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. No appointments are necessary; participants simply visit the sign-in desk in the CCS building lobby. Treatment will not take place, however referrals to outside resources will be made and resource materials given to participants. As many as 14 million American adults a year have episodes of major depression costing employers billions of dollars in lost productivity. However, most sufferers don't get adequate treatment, according to studies published in the April 2003 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
GCC Student Newspaper Wins Gold Medal in National Competition
The Voice, student newspaper at Glendale Community College, recently won a Gold Medal (952 points out of a possible 1,000) for its spring 2006 issues from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in New York City. Excellence was the recurring theme in written comments from the judges. They noted The Voice's strengths, including headline writing, quality of writing, design/graphics, and hard news coverage. Judges were particularly impressed with the April 19, 2006 issue covering immigration. For information about journalism at GCC, call 623.845.3914.
