GCC Prof. Discusses "Mathematics and Beauty" at Glendale Library, Aug. 23
Non-mathematicians are invited to glimpse the "beauty of math" when Glendale Community College Math Professor Jeff Kruse presents the first Visiting Professor lecture of the 2006 fall semester at the Glendale Public Library. The free lecture, "Mathematics and Beauty," will be held Wed., Aug. 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the GPL, 5959 W. Brown St. in Glendale. Bertrand Russell once said, "Mathematics possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty." Just as in music, literature, and painting, the aesthetic sense plays a fundamental role in the creation and appreciation of mathematics. By drawing upon elementary examples from arithmetic and geometry, Kruse will illustrate that beauty.
