DNA Identification Featured in Biotechnology Course Open to All
Students will determine the identity of a DNA sample and learn much more about the exciting field of biotechnology in a new class at GCC. "Introduction to Biotechnology" (BIO 107) is designed for anyone who wants a basic understanding of biotechnology and its impact on the global economy. The course will cover the history of biotechnology, applications in various careers, laboratory techniques, international economic benefits, and legal/moral issues. Topics will include analysis of molecules, properties and identification of DNA, genetic engineering, forensics, biological weapons, and much more. GCC Football Coach Inducted into the 2006 NJCAA Hall of Fame
Three national NJCAA football championships in 17 years (1988, 2000, 2005) just landed Glendale Community College Head Football Coach Joe Kersting in the NJCAA 2006 Hall of Fame. Kersting's stats and honors can fill a page. He is a resident of Glendale. He was the 2005 National Coach of the Year, is a ten-time NJCAA Region I Coach of the Year, won 13 Western States Football League Conference Championships, won 8 of 12 bowl games his teams played in, had 13 nationally ranked teams, and was undefeated in Arizona Conference play four of the last six years. New Online Course Could Qualify You to Teach in Community Colleges
If you have a Master's Degree in an academic discipline, it's possible just one more course could certify you to teach in a community college in Arizona. For the fall 2006 semester, Glendale Community College will offer a convenient online version of "Overview of the Community Colleges" (EDU250). It is a three-credit course that covers the history, functions, organization, and current issues in community colleges, with emphasis on Arizona community colleges. There are no pre-requisites. Two sections are offered, based on the time frames students have to complete the class. Section 1955 runs from Aug. 28 through Oct. 20. Section 1953 runs from Oct. 2 through Nov. 24.
