More Than 130 Employers at Free GCC Career Expo, March 29

If you are job hunting, career seeking, or changing careers, plan to attend the annual Career Expo at Glendale Community College! On Wed., March 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., more than 130 public and private employers will share valuable information about job and educational opportunities. The public will have direct access to employers seeking talented individuals. Many employers will discuss employment or conduct on-the-spot interviews, so participants are encouraged to dress professionally and bring résumés. Many educational institutions will be present to share information about various career programs. Spokespersons for GCC occupational programs will explain a variety of career programs and certificates offered at the college, including biotechnology, automotives, law enforcement, truck driving, fire science and more. The armed forces will also be represented. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. Glendale Community College is located at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale. GCC Forensics Students Compete in National Tournament in April

Five talented forensics students from Glendale Community College will attend the American Forensics Association's National Tournament in Florida, April 1-3. They qualified at the recent AFA District 9 national qualifying tournament for college and university students from seven western states. Roxan Alexander, Tenisha Bonds, Bryan Kupper, James Markos and Jim O'Callaghan qualified in a total of 16 performance categories, making GCC the second-highest qualifying school at the event. "Great things are going to happen at Florida State University," says GCC Director of Forensics Kirt Shineman. "This is the most competitive national tournament of the year." Forensics includes many types of public speaking, including debate, oral interpretation, performances of poetry or drama and more. The GCC Forensics Team will perform locally March 22, 7 p.m., at the Glendale Public Library, 5959 W. Brown in Glendale. Nursing, Technology Leaders Receive International Awards

Superior academic leadership characterizes Glendale Community College faculty members Denise DiGianfilippo, Chair of Nursing, and Doug DeSanti, Chair of Applied Technology, who recently received The Chair Academy's 2006 International Exemplary Leader Award. DiGianfilippo teaches for and administers the acclaimed GCC Nursing Program. DeSanti chairs the large Applied Technology Department, which encompasses 14 programs of study, including Fire Science, Administration of Justice, Automotive Technology and more. They will be honored at The Chair Academy's 15th Annual International Conference in Tucson, April 19-22. The Chair Academy designs and promotes training programs to advance academic and administrative leadership for post-secondary leaders.
