GCC North Seeks Public Input on Construction, March 9

Glendale Community College North invites the community to a public forum on Thurs., Mar. 9 to learn the details of upcoming campus expansion and respond to the design team on the proposed master plan. The forum will be held from 6-8 p.m. at GCC North, 5727 W. Happy Valley Road, room 106. Architects from RNL Design will present the preliminary master plan drawings and the project timeline. They will display the concept drawings for the current and future phased campus building developments, proposed vehicular and pedestrian traffic pathways, and other changes. The master plan is funded by a successful bond election in which GCC North is scheduled to receive approximately $23,000,000 for new construction. Call 623.845.4001 for more information about this event.

GCC Prof. Invited to Present at University of Oxford

Glendale Community College Professor Judy Gonzales Poggi will join 40 international specialists from academia at a Round Table on Bilingual Education and Teaching English as a Second Language at Harris Manchester College, in the University of Oxford, Oxford, England, March 19-24. Participants will exchange information on how the domestic and international migrations of people impact the education systems and social structures of higher education in their respective countries. Poggi will present data collected from a pilot project created at GCC for Spanish-speaking early educators. These are adult, Spanish-speaking GCC students acquiring English proficiency as part of their program of study, but who also have outside jobs in day care centers or other settings where they educate young children.

18 GCC Football Players Recruited on Scholarship to Four-Year Schools

After enjoying a perfect 11-0 record last season and winning the NCJAA National Football Championship in December, the Glendale Community College Gaucho team was a big target for talent scouts. Eighteen players have signed scholarship agreements that will take them to four-year institutions to play football and finish their college careers. Fourteen of them have already transferred to their new schools and will play football in the fall. Four more have signed scholarship contracts and will transfer during the summer after finishing the spring semester at GCC. "We have six to eight more guys that probably will still get an offer as well," says Head Football Coach Joe Kersting.
